I am an avid book lover, particularly fiction. Every month, I will choose a book written by either a woman or an African author (double points if the choice falls into both categories) and we will discuss the book virtually. I will also make extra recommendations that are not at all compulsory from articles to short stories and other books.
Set in Lagos, 1939, it follows Kehinde, a young woman whose dreams of writing are cut short when she’s forced to become the third wife of Mr. Ogunjobi after the start of World War Two. Though she finds some peace selling snacks at the market, her spirit is reignited when she joins the fight for women’s rights alongside the Lagos Market Women’s Association. Torn between duty and courage, Kehinde must decide: stay in her “parlour wife” role or fight for change.
Can’t wait to discuss this with you at the end of the month. Ciao and happy reading!💃🏽
